Position Purpose
Perform layout, nest cut parts, charge out stock, order materials on jobs. Populate scheduling tools, assign due dates, and route parts through multiple work centers including cutting tables rolls, press brakes and seam welding equipment. Coordinate projects with Project Managers, Project Foreman, Parts Area Foreman, Thermatech and Field Foremen.
Position Responsibilities
- Read, interpret, and understand work orders, drawings, and production schedules to understand project specifications including material selection and dimensional tolerances.
- Create flat layouts of fabricated parts based on customer supplied documentation/specification(s).
- Optimize material utilization to maximize sheet yield & minimize scrap.
- Collaborate with Project Foremen to determine cutting orders and manage due dates.
- Create necessary documentation and drawings to support fabrication, follow shop standards for releasing and scheduling of work through the shop.
- Work with the cutting table operators on special cuts required or special set ups.
- Order material as needed through the purchasing department and or charge from inventory.
- Answer questions from all shop floor personnel pertaining to the assembly of projects.
- Collaborate with Shop Foreman, Field Foreman, Project Managers, Parts Area Foreman, Thermatech Division, and VDC Department to determine fabrication sequence, layout of joint locations and methods of fabrication.
- Actively participate in waste reduction efforts and process improvement ideas to reduce waste and drive improvement from design through fabrication processes.
- Support and maintain a safe and Lean working environment.

Summary of Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Sheet Metal trade.
- Good interpersonal and supervisory skills
- Efficiently able to multitask and manage multiple project schedules.
- Strong math and layout skills
- Computer proficiency, knowledge and or ability to learn multiple design, cutting and nesting software packages as well as Microsoft Office.
- Strong understanding of reading and interpreting drawings and project specifications.
- Self-motivated, desire and willingness to learn and embrace new ideas & technologies.
- Ability to work closely with others on a team as well as independently.
