Position Purpose

Leads the engineering, quality, and CAD activities of the Thermatech metal fabricating division, ensuring the division delivers high-quality, code-compliant products that meet customer needs on time and within budget. Serves as the Chief Engineer for the ASME Quality system, design oversight, training, and development of team members, and the overall technical resource for customer solutions.

Position Responsibilities

  • Leads a team including Engineering, Drafting, and Quality Control, providing daily coaching and mentoring.  Manages all processes for Engineering, Quality, and CAD functions.
  • Ensures adherence to ASME and other related compliance codes, along with customer requirements.
  • In collaboration with divisional leadership, leads reviews of operating policies, procedures, and methods, identifying improvement opportunities and recommending new methods or corrective action.
  • Directly supports customer needs with engineering, quality, and sales knowledge. Provides technical assistance for key customer accounts and projects.
  • Acts as a technical expert for the company for both internal and external customers.
  • Travels as required to support new project sales or current project execution.
  • Champions continuous improvement efforts related to Engineering, Quality, and CAD personnel, including adherence to and involvement in ISO and Lean initiatives. Works with divisional leadership in cross-functional efforts to improve overall efficiency and quality throughout the division and company.
  • Supports the establishment of yearly budgets for Engineering, Quality, and CAD functions.
  • Establishes and follows through on a personal professional development plan.
  • Works with direct reports to determine annual performance goals for professional and/or technical growth; coaches and mentors on a regular basis, reviewing goals periodically and redirecting when necessary and appropriate.
  • Supports and maintains a Lean working environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Summary of Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Adept at clearly communicating complex technical concepts and coordinating cross-functional teams to deliver successful projects. Builds strong relationships with internal and external customers, fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • BSME (or equivalent) with ten years' experience in fabrication and design or a related field is required. Familiarity with Lean principles and their application is preferred. Master's degree and/or PE are a plus.
  • Ten years' experience leading a technical team or department, including financial management and staffing responsibilities.
  • Ability to understand and interpret ASME vessel, Quality and piping codes as well as other codes as applicable.
  • Physical ability to access job sites, including some climbing and crawling in vessels and other related product lines.

  • Leads a team including Engineering, Drafting and Quality control.
  • Works closely with Sheet Metal Fabrication Leadership, Production Leadership, Sales, Project Managers and cross functional teams from other departments.
