Position Purpose

The Systems & Security Administrator II plays a vital role in maintaining and improving Bassett Mechanical’s IT infrastructure while contributing to core cybersecurity functions. This mid-level position focuses primarily on the administration, stability, and reliability of enterprise systems and networks (approximately 70%), while supporting the security tools, protocols, and risk reduction practices (approximately 30%). The role is hands-on and operational, supporting business continuity, daily systems health, and secure IT operations under the direction of the IT Security & Infrastructure Manager.

  • Infrastructure (Primary – 70%)
    • Administer, monitor, and maintain enterprise systems including servers (virtual/physical), storage, backups, and cloud-hosted environments.
    • Manage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, file shares, print servers, and core infrastructure services.
    • Deploy and maintain virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V), including snapshots, capacity management, and host performance.
    • Support network infrastructure, including switches, wireless access points, and routing configurations.
    • Participate in system upgrades, patching, and lifecycle planning for hardware and software.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve system performance issues across endpoints, servers, and core infrastructure.
  • Security (Supportive – 30%)
    • Assist with deployment, configuration, and tuning of core security tools (e.g., antivirus, EDR, firewalls, SIEM).
    • Monitor security events and logs, escalating potential incidents and contributing to remediation efforts.
    • Assist in vulnerability scanning and remediation tracking.
    • Support enforcement of security policies and participate in user access reviews and compliance activities.
    • Provide technical assistance for security awareness efforts and support end-user best practices.
  • General
    • Provide Tier 2 technical support and mentor junior team members.
    • Collaborate with vendors and manage service providers on infrastructure and security projects.
    • Participate in disaster recovery planning, documentation, and testing efforts.
    • Maintain accurate documentation for systems, configurations, and procedures.
  • Technical Requirements
    • Proficient in enterprise systems administration: Windows Server, AD, GPOs, DNS, DHCP.
    • Working knowledge of network infrastructure: switches, firewalls, VLANs, and wireless systems.
    • Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
    • Familiarity with cloud services (Microsoft 365, Azure, AWS) and hybrid integrations.
    • Exposure to security tools: antivirus/EDR, firewalls, VPNs, SIEM.
    • Basic scripting for automation (PowerShell preferred).
    • Experience with backup technologies and system recovery planning.

Summary of Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years of experience in IT systems administration or infrastructure support.
  • Solid troubleshooting skills and experience managing mid-size IT environments.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills with a team-focused mindset.
  • No certifications required; a willingness to grow within both infrastructure and security areas is key.
