Position Purpose
Process and put away inbound shipments, validate them as expected/ordered, input the receipt into the system and coordinate the movement of the receipt to the place of need. Physically prepare items for shipment up to and including packaging, paperwork documentation and working with transportation carriers for the freight movement.
Position Responsibilities
- Physically receive freight into the Bassett facility.
- Enter incoming material into the system.
- Label and move incoming materials to their designated locations.
- Unload inbound semi-trucks and stage for receiving.
- Verify the correct material is being unloaded against pack slip or delivery receipt.
- Load and have driver sign all BOL’s for shipments. File paperwork in Signed BOL file.
- Notify Manager on damaged inbound shipments. Pictures must be taken, and BOL must be signed as damaged.
- Scan and file all packing slips and shipper’s paperwork electronically per policy.
- Send returns to vendor and update SharePoint.
- Monitor and track all Kanban requests against shipping acknowledgements and receipts.
- Put away Kanban materials to designated locations.
- Review the incoming material shelves and for material over 90 days past receipt contact the requester to determine disposition of package.
- Ship out small packages via UPS, FedEx, and Spee Dee apps.
- Set up LTL shipments via websites.
- Coordinate truckload shipments with carriers.
- Enter shipments on truck schedule.
- Assist department with metrics and spreadsheets as needed related to projects, lean events, department goals, etc.
- Support and maintain a safe and Lean working environment.
- Maintain an orderly, clean, and safe work environment (Bassett 6S Standards).
- Other duties as assigned.
Summary of Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of previous experience using a forklift to move larger pieces of material.
- Background in construction and/or manufacturing helpful.
- Strong knowledge of shipping and receiving procedures.
- Good organizational skills a must.
- Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Computer skills and ability to learn new computer programs are required. Microsoft Excel knowledge is a plus.
- Ability to interpret a Packing List, Bill of Ladings, and input the appropriate data into a computer program.
